City Lyric Opera redefines how opera is perceived and produced by emphasizing artist-centric programming and collaborative partnerships within our local community and making opera accessible and engaging for every New Yorker.
Entering our ninth season, CLO produces a mix of recitals, mainstage opera performances, and festivals of multi-disciplinary repertoire through an artist-led directive.
Current and upcoming season goals and initiatives include:
Increasing new audiences (50% of season audience members consider themselves new to the operatic art.)
Audience members maintain engagement with the operatic art form (50% of audience members return each season.)
Artists receive practical production knowledge applicable for future careers and projects.
Future season goals and initiatives include:
Change the artist’s pay structure from a flat fee to an hourly pay rate comparable to the required skill and expertise.
Goal: By the 25-26 Season, all City Lyric Opera Artists will be paid $50/hr for all rehearsals and $100/hr for performances.
All full-time City Lyric Staff members are salaried employees entitled to retirement and/or health insurance benefits.
Goal: By the 25-26 Season, CLO staff members will receive at least $40/hr in compensation, and those working over 35 hours per week will be eligible for benefits.
